Ulcerative Colitis Remedy / Remission Idea

Remedy Ideas

Change of tablet manufacturer and lots of rest

Thanks to Val H

There was a huge improvement to the colitis symptoms when a switch from Asacol to Olasalzine occurred. This eliminated constipation and made everything more regular. Val suspects it was to do with the enteric coating and release time of the tablet which is designed to get past the small intestine. This is something I noticed when I changed my Mesalazine tablets .

In addition, Omeprazole prescribed for a seperate issue with the stomach has led to the longest period of remission since being diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis (25 years ago). This is fantastic news and should give UCers hope that they might one-day find a recipe that suits them.

One of the most important things Val recommends during a flare-up is rest, which I totally agree with. Just like when you have flu, your body needs to rest so it can concentrate on fighting the disease.

Below is a summary:

Maintenance Meds Remission Diet Food Avoided
  • Olasalzine x 8 per day started during flare-up
  • Osalazine is an anti inflammatory medicine used for IBD
  • Omeprazole x 40mg per day started during remission
  • Omeprazole is a type of medicine called 'proton pump inhibitor'. It's used in the treatment of stomach ulcers, GERD etc.
